Requirements

Whether you have veteran swimmers or will be new to the swim team, there are two items that will be strictly enforced this summer season:

  1. Swimmers must be at least 5 years old and able to swim 15 yards, unassisted, and with a recognizable stroke.  If the coaches feel your swimmer is not safe in the water at the first practice, you will be asked to please wait until next season and instead enroll in swim lessons.  One option for lessons before this summer are various pre-season clinics offered in the area.
  2. The Barracuda team is Parent-Run. Therefore, every family must fulfill a minimum of 3 volunteer “points.” These will be explained at the parent's meeting.  Do not register your child if you do not plan to assist in the group effort. Thanks!

SWIMSUITS

Team suits are not included in the registration fee. Each swimmer must have a team suit for the meets.

Ordering Team Swimsuits  You can order suits at the registraton meeting on April 6th.

A team suit is required per Tarheel Swimming Association rules. Jr. Barracudas do not need a team suit. You will be able to buy the suit at our Kick Off on April 6.  SKS will be there with a fit line and suits to purchase.  More to come on this.

JUNIOR BARRACUDAS

The Sunset Ridge Swim Team is excited to offer this program for young up and coming Barracudas! Junior Barracudas are members of the Sunset Ridge Swim Team, but do not participate in the Blue‐Gold meet, the regular Tuesday night dual meets, or the team championship meet. Junior Barracudas will have an intra squad meet at the end of the season.

The goal of the Junior Barracuda program is to provide an introduction to the swim team environment to younger children. We work on basic water safety skills, as well as basic swim technique.

Our goal is that by the end of the summer, swimmers are able to jump (or dive) into the pool on their own and and swim 15 yards of freestyle with their face in the water, and be able to swim 15 yards of backstroke.

However, wherever a child’s abilities may be, a coach will be with them every step of the way!

The minimum standard to participate in the Junior Barracudas are that a child MUST be at least 3 years of age, they MUST be potty trained, and they must be willing to jump into the water with a coach in the deep end of the pool.If a Junior Barracuda gains the ability to swim 15 yards of the pool unassisted during the season, they may be moved up to the 6 & Under group at the discretion of the Head Coach.Since Junior Barracudas do not participate in regular dual meets, Junior Barracudas parents do not have to volunteer at regular dual meets, unless you have a child in an older age group. Junior Barracuda parents are expected to volunteer at the Junior Barracuda intra squad meet at the end of the season. Junior Barracudas are considered part of the team and will receive a T-shirt and a medal at the end of the year. Registration costs for Junior Barracudas are $95. The group will have a maximum of 32 participants and will have a coach‐swimmer ratio of no more than 1 to 3 to maximize assistance for participants. Practices will be evening only, from 4:40-5pm. There is no practice on Tuesdays after dual meets begin.

Where should I place my child?
