Maybe you are a social player and just want to play with a group and have fun, we cater to that as well.  Check out of calendar of events for a list of our upcoming socials.

Tennis Lessons & Clinics

Adult Clinics

Please register for adult clinic through your online portal and do not just drop in. If you do not have a portal set up, you can set up one HERE.  All registered players will be notified of cancellations or changes.  Also, each class has a limit on attendance so please register ahead of time. If no players are registered, the class may be cancelled!

Monday Daytime Ladies Clinic 10a – 11a

This all-level group is designed to developed on the foundation of Tennis through drills, game situations and strategy.

Tuesday Evening Men's Drill – 7p – 8p

This group comprised of multiple levels offers a chance to hit a lot of balls after a tough day at work.  You will work on specific shots, tactics, strategies and more.

Wednesday Morning Ladies Drill/Play USTA 3.0 & UP 9a – 10:30a

We drill a specific focus and then use it in coached play.  This group can only accept a maximum of 8 players.

Wednesday Night Coed 2.0-3.0 Clinic 7p – 8p

This is a fun-filled class working on the basics of tennis in a fun and energetic fashion.

Junior Programs:

Our Programs are based on sessions and packages. Each session is one calendar month and players can choose from one of three attendance packages, 4 class pack, 8 class Pack and unlimited.  

  • All classes must be used during the calendar month as nothing rolls over to the next month.
  • All Packages automatically renew each month unless cancelled prior to the 26th of the month.
  • All packages go live on your account at 11a on the 1st of each month. You can then log into your portal and register for whatever classes you would like to attend.

PRO STAFF BIOS

Brian Smith

Director of Tennis

Brian has been directing the Club at Sunset tennis program for the past 4 years prior. Prior to CAS he was the Director of Tennis at Clubs from Wisconsin to Texas and had proven to develop the creative, encompassing, and enjoyable programs. Brian’s coaching philosophy is to take tactical, strategic, technical and the physical attributes of each player and coach them to become the best versions of themselves on the court. Brian has worked with beginners' kids and adults and all to the way up to nationally ranked players competing at the highest level of junior competitions, has even worked a former #1 world ranked doubles player and multiple grand slam Champion, Liezel Huber. On the playing side, Brian Played collegiately at the University of Utah and have won two National Adult Doubles Championships in Men's 30s and 35s

Robert Gibson

Tennis Professional

Robert Allen Gibson is a USPTA certified professional tennis instructor, USTA PlaySafe certified and a Lifetime member of USTA. He is also trained in Cardio tennis. He would love to work with all the players at Sunset as a Tennis Professional, Tennis instructor, Tennis analyst, or a tennis coach. He has been teaching 45 years, played the open circuit for 5 year and played college and high school tennis. Robert has coached college, high school and club tennis teams. Mic Wallace

Director of Junior Programming

Mic has passionately been involved in the tennis industry for over 25 years. Most recently he was the Director of Tennis at Walnut Creek Country Club in Goldsboro and the Assistant Director/Head Professional at Chapel Hill Country Club.

Mic has worked with all levels of players and ages. He has worked with many USTA District, sectionally and nationally ranked juniors; coached many players who have gone on to play NCAA College Tennis. Mic was also the Head Assistant coach at the Baltimore USTA Competitive Training Center; coached high school tennis in Baltimore and Pennsylvania and was named 2005 Private School Coach of the Year. His HS teams won multiple conference team, and individual titles and advanced to State Tournaments.

As a player, Mic was a top ranked junior in Middle States, played in the WV HS State tournament 3 years, reaching the quarterfinals in doubles, played NCAA Div. II Tennis #1 singles and doubles for West Liberty University, and was ranked Men’s #1 in Mid-Atlantic and Middle States Men’s Open Doubles and top 20 in Singles. He was also Nationally ranked in Singles and Doubles in Men’s 35s. He continues playing competitively in USTA and WTT leagues.

Mic was named the 2017 USPTA North Carolina Pro of the Year as well as 2013 USTA Pennsylvania Pro of the year. He also serves as a USPTA certified Mentor for upcoming tennis professionals.

Ian Dempster

Tennis Professional

Originally from Dallas Texas, Ian was a top junior in the state and committed to play college tennis at NC State University in 2013 where he reached a ranking of top 10 in the ITA doubles rankings. After graduating in 2017 he transferred to Wake Forest University where he was a part of a ACC Championship and a NCAA National Championship title. He then went to play on the ATP Pro Tour and reached a career high of 360 in the ATP doubles rankings.

He has almost 10 years of coaching experience and has worked at a handful of local tennis programs.

Rules & Policies

The Club at Sunset Tennis policies are set to insure safety and guarantee a pleasant atmosphere for all members. The tennis rules are to maximize the enjoyment and safe play for all tennis players.

  • Priority On Courts: Adults have priority on courts weekdays after 5:00pm, weekends, and holidays. Adult members playing with their children shall be treated as adult play.
  • Reserving Courts: Courts may be reserved by any member 48 hours in advance (Wednesday Reservations can be made on Monday), unless already reserved for club round robins, special events, clinics, lessons, or an approved USTA match etc. However, the player(s) reserving the courts shall forfeit the reserved court if not present and on the court within 10 minutes of the reserved time. Court 2 will be held open for ball machine use until all other courts are reserved.
  • Time Limits for Play: Court time is limited to 1 hour for singles and 1-1/2 hours for doubles. Play may continue beyond these time limits if no one is waiting. However, players may not re-sign for the same court or for any other court without first coming off of the courts to allow waiting player(s) to play. Courts shall be surrendered immediately upon expiration of time.
  • Proper Attire and Behavior: Players must wear proper tennis attire, including shirts. Only regulation tennis shoes may be worn on the courts. No profanity, unsportsmanlike conduct, or excessive noise will be allowed on the courts. Leave the court in as good or better condition than it was in when you arrived for play. Please understand and use tennis etiquette at all times.
  • Misc: NO glass, bikes, wagons, roller-skates, roller blades, skateboards, scooters, toys or pets of any kind are allowed on the courts.
  • Children: No children will be permitted in the court area unless they are playing tennis. Children should be directly supervised at all times while at the tennis facility.
  • Guests: A member must accompany all guests. Guest fees should be paid at the Pro Shop prior to play. If the Pro Shop is closed, the fee must be paid the next time the shop is open. Fees for guests who live in Wake County are $3.00 during the week and $5.00 on the weekend. All out-of-town guests are free of charges.
  • Problems: Any problem with the courts should be reported to the General Manager.
